Miserable Week

Maddy has had a miserable week. It started on Tuesday with Jason dropping her off at daycare. She screamed when he left, which she had never done before. Karen said she just wasn't herself throughout the day. Wednesday she had a great day with me despite a few up chucks. Then came the storm...Thursday morning at about 3 am she woke up screaming. She was inconsolable and running a severe temperature. We gave her some tylenol but she wouldn't calm down. We tried bringing her in bed with us, sleeping with her on our chest, but nothing seemed to work. Finally about 5 am, Jason and her fell asleep in the chair. I stayed home with her and she was up and down all day. She seemed to run a temperature after every nap. Thursday night was a close repeat of the night before so I brought her into the doctors. Her right ear was a mess. Apparently the ear infection from 2 weeks earlier never cleared up. So they tried her on a new antiobiotic...augmenten. They warned me at the pharmacy that there were a lot of side effects and that it was hard on kid's stomaches. They weren't kidding.

We left for Indiana late Friday afternoon after work and Maddy seemed to have a pretty good afternoon so I was hoping the antibiotic was kicking in and we were on the up swing. Boy was I wrong. I was hosting Brooke's baby shower, which went really well, despite the fact that Maddy was miserable and on the brink on having an allergic reaction to the antibiotic. She was crabby and irritable all day long and then Saturday night was a nightmare. We got about 3 hours of sleep. Ugh. It was one of the worst nights ever.

We have now stopped the antibiotic because Maddy's side effects were too much. She had horrible diarrhea along with hives and a rash and was obviously extremely uncomfortable. We've had to put Calamine lotion all over her body and head and her poor bottom is red and inflamed. I'm not sure how we are going to get over this ear infection.

Anyway, here are a few pictures from the weekend...

Sunday once we got home Maddy seemed to be feeling better now that we had stopped the antibiotic. She was still itchy and a bit sensitive but a huge improvement from the weekend. We were greeted home by my mom, sister-in-law Laura, and nephew Jack. Maddy stayed home with my mom yesterday and had a much improved day. We went to swim classes and wished Kendal a happy first birthday with balloons and then went out for ice cream. Things really seem to be on the up swing, or at least I'm hoping.
