This week has been a tough way to start out the new year for the three of us. Maddy still isn't feeling well. She continues to have a runny nose and bad cough. We had to put a pillow under her mattress to elevate her head at night so that she can breath. We decided that she was old enough now to stop eating during the night. So Monday night we let her cry herself back to sleep. She got up on two separate occasions and cried for about an hour each time. It was miserable for all of us. Jason and I barely got any sleep because it was so hard listening to her cry. We are such mean parents to do this to her when she is sick, but we thought enough is enough. Every night has gotten a little better. She is waking up less and now can put herself back to sleep pretty quickly.
Another big, new experience for us this week was Maddy's first day of daycare. Tuesday Jason dropped her off and I picked her up after work. She came home with a good report card for the day. We were really proud of her. Jason said that she started to cry when he dropped her off, but then Kendal showed up and the two of them played on the floor. So that really helped. Thursday she went to daycare again and had another great day.
Eating solid food still isn't going so good. We have tried rice cereal and oatmeal now and she doesn't like either one. We have moved on to other foods now because it isn't worth the struggle. Tuesday night we tried the only stage 1 vegetable we had in the house, which Maddy got in her Christmas stocking from Grandma Nancy...sweet potatoes. She seems to do better with the sweet potatoes but it doesn't take long before she is spitting them back at us and getting them all over.

We tried applesauce on Friday night but that was not a hit. So we are pretty frustrated. We take turns fighting with her to keep our sanity. We have also let her try cheerios and sweet potato puffs. She really likes them but gets too excited sometimes and chokes because she tries swallowing them whole. This has really been one of the toughest experiences for us with her. I hope it improves soon. Thats what I get for having such yummy milk.
Friday I brought Maddy in for her 6 month wellness visit. Her current stats include: 18 lb 5 oz and 30.25 in. This has dropped her off the 95th growth curve down to about the 85th, however her height has continued to shoot off the charts. She is going to be taller than her dad if she keeps it up. All in all, this week has be very difficult on all of us. Maddy has been very crabby, which isn't like her. She seems to be feeling better, but it hasn't improved her mood. I don't know how people with colicky babies do it.
